Planning a Home Remodel or Addition
Here's a little checklist we've found helpful in planning a
home remodel or addition. Why not print it out to help you in your planning?
- Get ideas - from family, from friends and neighborhood homes.
- Talk to a dependable &
experienced contractor (preferably local) about preliminary
budgeting, financing, scheduling.
- Be sure to check with your homeowners association to be sure that you
obtain necessary permission.
- Also check with local building codes and zoning laws so that you know
whether the work you want done is permitted.
- Work with a contractor that subscribes to a code of ethics. Members of
N.A.P.C. agree to subscribe to such a code.
- Verify that your contractor has insurance and ask what kind of warranty he
provides.
- Ask for references from your contractor.
- Keep in mind, you get what you pay for!
- Coordinate family members and children when work begins.
- Make arrangements to keep pets out of the way and secure during
construction.
- Keep an eye on progress and bear in mind that weather and local conditions
can cause delays.
- Before you know it, your "new" home is finished. How about a party to
celebrate?

Ideas - from the experts.
